This is my 20th year teaching English Language Arts 9-12 in an alternative school setting. I currently teach English I & English II. My educational background includes a BA in Literature with a Concentration in Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina-Asheville & English 9-12 Teaching Licensure through the UNC-A NC Teaching Fellows program. I also had the opportunity to attend Cambridge University in Cambridge, England where I earned university credits in Arts & Humanities. 

Some of my continuing education credits include Ruby Payne, MindLadder Dynamic Assessment, the AIG Plan, Junior Great Books Shared Inquiry, Making RTI Work in the Schools, Teaching about the Holocaust, WRESA Writing & Literacy Workshops, Paideia, Baldridge & Tier IV Classroom Management, BRCC Career Academy for Educators, Working on the Work: High Yield Strategies for the Classroom, The Keys to Literacy program training, SAFE Dates training, NC Common Core and Essential Standards NCDPI Training, RTI & Adolescent Literacy research with WCU, Stop the Bleed certification, & required Digital Learning Competencies in technology integration in the classroom.

I also coordinated & led professional development on the NC Common Core &
Literacy for all ELA 6-12 teachers for Transylvania County Schools, maintaining a
Moodle Course & WIKI of ELA resources including teacher driven benchmark
assessments & pacing guides aligned with the NC Common Core Anchor Standards. I also served as Senior Advisor & Senior Project Coordinator for the TCS alternative school.

I was awarded Davidson River School Teacher of the Year 2012-2013 & 2016-2017, Rotary Club Teacher of the Year 2015, Brevard College Exceptional Educator 2010, & I received a Fulbright-Hays for educational research & travel across eastern Australia in 2005.
