I was born and raised in Matthews, North Carolina where I graduated from David W. Butler High School. I received  degrees in technical photography and history, secondary education at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I then went back and earned a Masters degree in History Secondary Education.
I spent my first year teaching SC History to 8th grade girls in Charleston, South Carolina. I had tons of fun teaching and learning history in Charleston, but I am a mountain girl at heart and was glad to come back to teaching in a mountain high school. I have been teaching at Community for 10 years now. It seems like only yesterday that I moved back to the mountains.
I love to integrate art, especially photography, into history and ultimately the classroom; I believe that art & photography bring history to life and allow students to better connect with the material I am teaching on any given day.

I believe that social studies is an integral part of student's education. History teaches students life lessons. I hope that my students will understand the big picture about each section in history we discuss, hopefully learning how to connect to the people of the time rather than just memorizing the dates.

And in case you did not know, I love Harry Potter, Dr Who, all things nerdy and Snoopy and the entire Peanuts gang.
