1. Narrow down a research topic (not too small, not too big)
2. Create a formal business letter from a template and exemplar.
3. Find appropriate sources using the library, Google (advanced search), and List Serves (NC Wise OWL)
4. Analyze the validity of a source (good, bad, and ugly).
5. Paraphrase an author’s words.
6. Summarize author’s main points.
7. Quote text that is useful to support his/her claims in their own research.
8. Craft a strong thesis statement.
9. Find appropriate sources to use in research.
10. Organize and make sense of sources to use in the research paper (notetaking)
