On Wednesday, October 16, sixteen CHS students and CTE Career Development Coordinator Susan Holt and Martha Martin embarked on an exciting opportunity for leadership development and authentic hands-on learning. Vannoy Construction and Mountain Area Workforce hosted the WNC Construction Career Day at the Haywood County Fairgrounds. Students enjoyed operating heavy equipment, engaging in construction demonstrations, receiving career information on construction trades, interviewing skilled tradespeople, and participating in giveaways. CTE student and field trip attendee Anna Mooney had this to say: “It was a very fun day, and my favorite part was that I got to meet a lot of new people. It was very interactive with other students from other schools and other teachers”. Taylor Baldwin, CTE Director for Buncombe County Schools, reported, “Today was an event for our students to gain awareness of the careers available around them and the outstanding need to fill those careers and to give back.”

The successful Construction Day field trip serves as another vibrant example of the CTE department’s powerful educational and vocational impact here at CHS!
