John Moore
Mr. Moore

Greetings! My name is John Moore and I am an English teacher here at Community High School. This is my third year here at CHS, and I am so grateful to be working with these students. I am a graduate of Brevard College, and I hold a NC Teaching Licence in both Secondary English and Exceptional children. I have been working in Alternative Education for the last ten years. I came to CHS from the Davidson River School in Transylvania County.

I first moved to WNC from SC in 2002 and settled in Henderson County with my wife and our first born son. During our time there, we added our second son to the family in 2004. We currently live in the north western corner of Buncumbe County near Sandymush in farm country. My wife (an English teacher here at CHS), myself, and my two boys moved out to the country-side in 2016, and we haven't looked back.

Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the recording industry and the natural foods  for ten years. I enrolled in college when both of my boys were in Elementary school.  I graduated from Brevard College's Teacher Education program in 2010, and began teaching at SILSA at Asheville High the following year. I have been in education since that time. I enjoy yard work, playing guitar, and reading when I am not at school. My oldest son started college in Chicago last year, and my youngest is a Senior in high school this year. I spend as much time as possible with them.

I am excited about the approaching school year. It promises to be a year like never before that is full of new challenges, but also amazing opportunity. Please reach out to me if I can be of any assistance at any time!

“Read, read, read. Read everything -- trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it.
Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window.”
