Welcome to our classroom! I am so pleased to be at Community High School for the 2016-17 school year as the Exceptional Children/Social Studies/Science teacher with the PASS Day Treatment Program. This semester I am teaching American History 1 and Earth Science.
I attended Kindergarten through 12th grade and began my teaching career in Brevard County, Florida - home of the Kennedy Space Center and gorgeous beaches! My first 12+ years of teaching were in the field of elementary school music, but when our family moved to the mountains of North Carolina, I accepted a position at the Swannanoa Valley Youth Development Center as a Special Ed/EC teacher working with adjudicated male students aged 11-21; I was with DJJDP for almost 9 years. I am blessed to have been there and treasure that time because it was there that I learned to value the qualities and character of older students – especially those who are struggling learners. As a result of that experience, I have been at CHS since August of 2011 and I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be a part of my students’ successes here as we work together to meet their goals!
My education degrees are from Brevard Community College and the University of Central Florida; I have also taken graduate level coursework through Nova University and Mars Hill College.
Hugh, my husband of 33+ years, and I have lived in West Asheville since 1999 with one beautiful old cat named Sugar Bear, a younger cat named Cheshire Cat, and the most recent addition to our menagerie: a beautiful Australian Shepherd mix named "Mollie". We are very active in our church where I play the keyboards in the band, Hugh is a part of the men’s ministries, and we both serve on the parish council. We also enjoy traveling, taking day trips to places we've never been before, gardening, cooking and watching British comedies and dramas (especially mysteries!)....
