Mr. ConardParents, guardians, staff, students and guests: Welcome to Community High School’s web page and the Nest (Home of the Eagles)!

What a great place to be at Community High School. It is an honor to serve the students, parents, guardians and staff of Buncombe County Schools in Swannanoa, North Carolina. It is with great pride that I write this introductory passage to you as the newly appointed Principal at Community High School. I possess over 25 years of educational experience specific to the high school setting in which I have spent the last 6 years serving as the assistant principal.  I am elated to continue to bring and grow my skills as the educational and instructional leader to Community High School. Along with our staff, I will work hard to continue with pride the legacy of success established at CHS by Tiffany Little, Dr. Regina Lambert and Clifford Owens by building strong relationships with the stakeholders in our community.

Speaking of pride, we want to encourage all of our students to show their Eagle PRIDE every day and everywhere (Positive attitude, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and an Effort toward graduation). We all know that acceptable behavior is a vital and necessary part of every student’s school life.  It requires a collaborative community of parents, guardians, teachers, administrators and students to provide a safe school climate that allows students to learn and teachers the opportunity to deliver instruction.

Our pride beams when we look at last year’s data. We graduated 47 students during mid-year and end of year graduation ceremonies. Our students participated in over 95% of all testing requirements. We were at 88.9% Persistence, 73% Academic Proficiency and 90% Graduation rate for an overall school rating of 79.975% in our new School Effectiveness Accountability Model which makes us an effective school. Our teachers and staff have worked very hard to get these results because they know that it represents that students are being successful at Community High School.

During the course of the year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide the students at CHS the best possible opportunities in preparing them to reach their full potential. All stakeholders at CHS take great PRIDE in our school and put students first in making decisions. As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions or ideas to help make this the best year yet!
